About Balloon Bear Expeditions

Balloon Bear Expeditions publishes illustrated educational adventures for curious readers. For purchase, reading-access, or support questions, email support@balloonbearexpeditions.com.

What your purchase includes

A single-book purchase provides 365 days of online access to the selected title. A 30-day library pass provides 30 days of online access to the published books available through our library, including books added while the pass is active.

You are purchasing a limited period of online reading access. The purchase does not include a physical book, a downloadable edition, or permanent ownership of the book files.

Access begins when PayPal confirms the payment has completed. It does not begin when you first read the book. Each access day is a 24-hour period. Time continues to run while you are not using the service.

Both products are one-time purchases. They do not renew automatically. A later purchase begins a new access period when its payment completes; it does not automatically add time to an existing purchase. Contact support before buying again if you are trying to recover access you already paid for.

Annual homeschool access

Family annual access costs CA$89.00. Approved organization annual access costs CA$57.85 per household (35% off). Both provide 365 days of access to all published titles in this reader, including releases added during the active period. Access begins when payment completes. No automatic renewal. Purchases are made by an adult for household use. An organization eligibility key is single-use and reserves one discounted checkout; it does not grant unpaid access. Eligibility is manually reviewed. Keys expire after the validity period supplied when issued. Contact support for an abandoned checkout. Annual access is recognized in this browser; recovery moves access to another browser and removes it from the previous browser. Simultaneous multi-device accounts are not provided by this version. Use this reader’s library page to open annual access. Existing retail purchases remain with the retail reader.

Prices and payment

Prices are in Canadian dollars. Review the selected product, access period, and final amount before approving payment. Any applicable taxes or other charges must be disclosed before you complete the purchase. There are no shipping charges for online reading access.

An adult must make the purchase. PayPal processes payments; the payment options available are shown by PayPal. After approving payment, follow the return steps to our reader and complete the payment confirmation step. Access is activated only after payment is verified as completed. Pending, declined, or cancelled payments do not activate access.

Keep your PayPal receipt and transaction reference. If payment completes but access does not open, contact support rather than paying again.

Reading requirements and household use

You need an internet connection and a modern browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled. Use our free books to check reading and narration on your device before purchasing.

Your household may read together using the browser that holds the purchase. Current retail access is linked to a browser, not a Balloon Bear account. It does not include synchronized access across multiple browsers or devices.

Clearing cookies, changing browsers or devices, or closing a private-browsing session can remove that browser’s ability to recognize a purchase. This does not itself cancel the purchase or extend its expiry date.

Restoring purchases

Choose Restore purchases in the library and contact support using the instructions on that page. We verify the purchase and provide a recovery code. Recovery is handled by a person; a code is not sent instantly.

Enter the code in the browser you want to use. Codes expire after 24 hours. Recovery moves the purchases associated with the previous browser to the replacement browser. The previous browser loses access to those purchases. Original expiry dates remain unchanged. Expired or refunded purchases are not reactivated.

Keep recovery codes private. Never send us your PayPal password or full payment-card details.

Permitted use

Access is for personal and household educational reading during the purchased period. It does not transfer copyright. Do not resell access, distribute paid book files, publish copies online, or share access credentials or recovery codes outside your household. These terms do not remove uses permitted by applicable copyright law.

Contact us before using paid access for an organization, classroom, public screening, or other group licence.

Educational content and external links

The books introduce subjects and encourage further investigation. They are supplementary educational resources, not a complete curriculum or a promise of particular learning outcomes.

Descriptions of equipment, experiments, travel, or hazardous activities are not instructions to attempt them without appropriate training, supervision, and safety precautions. Parents and educators should assess suitability for their learners.

Source and further-reading links lead to websites operated by others. Their content and privacy practices can change. Adult review is recommended before young readers follow external links.

Availability and changes

We may correct content and maintain or improve the service. Temporary interruptions may occur. If a purchased book or pass does not provide the access described, contact support so we can investigate, restore access, or arrange a refund where appropriate under our Refund Policy and applicable law.

Later policy changes will not reduce the access period or rights attached to a purchase already made. Free samples and promotional offers may change.

Your rights

The Refund Policy forms part of our purchase terms. Nothing in these policies removes consumer rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded, or prevents you from using applicable PayPal or payment-provider dispute processes.

Privacy Policy

Who is responsible and how to contact us

Balloon Bear Expeditions is responsible for personal information it handles to operate this website, provide purchased access, and answer support requests.

For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact the Business Owner — Privacy Contact at support@balloonbearexpeditions.com, using “Privacy request” in the subject line. This contact also answers questions about our service providers and overseas processing.

Information used for reading access

Our reader places a secure cookie in your browser to recognize purchased access. The purchase database stores a hashed browser identifier rather than the cookie’s original value.

Purchase records include the selected book or pass, price and currency, internal purchase reference, PayPal order and payment-capture references, payment status, and purchase and expiry dates. An incomplete checkout can also create a record even if you do not finish paying.

Recovery records include a hashed recovery code, expiry and use information, and the identifiers needed to transfer purchases between browsers. Refund and reversal records allow us to stop access associated with those payments.

These identifiers help us connect activity to purchases; they should not be understood as making all information anonymous.

We also retain the policy version, acceptance time, and purchase terms shown at checkout so you can obtain a copy of your purchase confirmation.

Payment information

PayPal processes your payment under its own privacy terms. Our checkout does not collect or store your full card number or PayPal password.

Payment responses and merchant transaction records may make buyer information available to us, including a name or payment email address. Our reader’s purchase database stores the purchase fields described above, rather than customer names or email addresses. This does not mean buyer information is absent from PayPal records or support correspondence.

Support and recovery correspondence

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments or receipt information you provide. We use that information to respond, verify purchases, investigate problems, and restore access where appropriate.

Please send only information needed for the request. Do not send passwords, full card details, or unnecessary personal information about a child. If we need additional verification, we will explain what is needed.

Cookies and technical records

The reader’s access cookie can remain for up to 365 days from when it is set or refreshed, unless you delete it earlier. The cookie’s lifetime does not extend a purchase’s expiry date.

We use this cookie for access and checkout security, not advertising. The current library website does not include advertising pixels or third-party audience analytics scripts added by Balloon Bear Expeditions.

Hosting and security systems may process IP addresses, requested URLs, browser or device information, timestamps, and request or error logs. These records may reveal which reader pages were requested. They help operate the service, investigate faults, and prevent misuse. Payment providers may use their own cookies and technologies under their policies.

Why we use and disclose information

We use information to process and verify purchases, provide reading access, recover purchases, handle refunds and disputes, respond to messages, maintain security, and meet applicable legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use support messages to enrol you in marketing campaigns.

Information may be disclosed to providers as needed for those purposes, or where required or permitted by law. A support request is not consent to unrelated marketing.

Service providers and processing outside Canada

Cloudflare provides website hosting, book storage, the access database, and related technical services. PayPal processes payments and provides payment and dispute records. Google Gmail handles our support mailbox. Our existing Squarespace-managed email forwarding also routes incoming support messages through its forwarding infrastructure.

These services may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, and foreign laws may allow authorities to access it. This page explains the purposes for which we use providers. Contact our Business Owner — Privacy Contact for our provider-handling policies and details about processing locations.

Providers have their own privacy terms. Relevant public information is available from [Cloudflare](https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/), [PayPal Canada](https://www.paypal.com/ca/legalhub/paypal/home), [Google](https://policies.google.com/privacy), and [Squarespace](https://www.squarespace.com/privacy).

Retention and protection

We retain information only as reasonably needed to provide access, answer support requests, manage security, refunds or disputes, and meet legal or accounting obligations. Expiry of reading access does not automatically erase related purchase records.

When information is no longer needed for these purposes, our policy is to securely delete it or make it anonymous. Different record types may require different retention periods; contact us for information about a particular record. A deletion request may not remove information we must retain for a lawful purpose.

The reader uses secure connections, secure access cookies, and hashed browser and recovery identifiers. We restrict administrative access to information used to run the service. No system can guarantee complete security. We will address privacy incidents and make notifications where required by applicable law.

Young readers

The books are designed for young readers, but adults should handle purchases and support requests. We do not ask children to create accounts, provide profiles, or submit schoolwork through this reader. Technical information may still be processed when a child uses the website.

Your choices and requests

You may ask about the personal information we hold about you, request access or correction, raise a privacy complaint, or ask about deletion or withdrawing consent. We may request reasonable identity or purchase verification before disclosing information or changing access.

We will explain applicable limits and respond within the time required by law. Withdrawing permission for information necessary to provide purchased access may affect our ability to continue that service; we will explain the consequences. You can delete browser cookies, but you may then need purchase recovery.

You can also contact the [Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta](https://oipc.ab.ca/) or, where federal privacy law applies, the [Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada](https://www.priv.gc.ca/).

Policy updates

We will update this page when our practices change and identify its effective date. Where a new use requires consent or additional notice, we will obtain or provide it as required. Future membership features will need updated disclosures before they begin collecting information.

Organization eligibility

Eligibility requests are handled through support email. The reader stores an organization name, an internal review reference, a hashed eligibility key, issuance/expiry/claim/revocation times and the linked checkout/browser identifiers. We use these to validate the discounted offer and prevent key reuse. Do not include children’s information in eligibility requests.

Refund Policy

Contact us if something is wrong

Email support@balloonbearexpeditions.com with the book title or pass, purchase date, PayPal transaction reference, and a brief description of the problem. A receipt can help us locate the payment. Do not send your PayPal password or full card details.

If payment completed but the book did not open, please do not pay again. We will investigate and help restore the access purchased.

Access failures, duplicate payments, and incorrect access

We will work to correct access that was not delivered as described. If we cannot provide the purchased access, we will offer an appropriate refund, subject to any greater remedy required by law.

If we verify that the same access was purchased twice by mistake, we will refund the duplicate payment. An intentional additional purchase is not automatically a duplicate. If the wrong access was delivered, we will correct it or arrange an appropriate refund.

Change of mind and unused time

Because these purchases provide digital reading access, change-of-mind refunds are not normally offered once the purchased content is accessible. Choosing not to read, or leaving part of an access period unused, does not by itself create a refund entitlement under this voluntary policy.

Clearing cookies or switching browsers is normally an access-recovery issue; it does not require another purchase. This policy does not limit a cancellation, refund, or other remedy available under applicable law or payment-provider processes.

How refunds are processed

Approved refunds are processed through PayPal against the original transaction. PayPal and the payment provider determine how the funds are returned and when they appear. We cannot promise an exact bank or card processing time.

Access funded by a fully refunded or reversed payment is withdrawn. A refund of a library pass does not withdraw a separate, valid single-book purchase paid for through a different transaction.

Partial refunds

The current access system also withdraws access associated with a partially refunded payment. It does not automatically convert the remaining payment into a shorter access period. Before agreeing to a discretionary partial refund, we will explain its effect on access and any arrangement for the remaining paid entitlement.

This technical limitation does not reduce your legal rights. If you are legally entitled to continuing access or another remedy, we will arrange that remedy rather than rely on the automatic access withdrawal.

Consumer rights and disputes

Nothing in this policy excludes mandatory consumer protections or prevents a PayPal or payment-provider dispute. Contacting us first can help resolve a problem, but is not a condition for exercising a statutory right. Any legally required refund deadline takes precedence over our normal support process.
